چکیده

Geometric characteristics of 2-manifolds embedded in R space have been analyzed from the point of view of differential geometry and topology. In the past, results relevant to these areas have been found for C curves and surfaces. However, current scientific, industrial, entertainment and medical applications, and availability of more powerful point sampling systems, press for characterization of discrete counterparts for the continuous properties and characteristics evaluated previously in C curves and surfaces. Recent works have presented estimation methods for properties such as the principal and rotated quadrics of point sampled surfaces. The present article uses the findings of previous investigations to propose and implement a method for evaluation of planarity of surfaces. It is based on: (i) Estimation of a C partial mesh fitting sets of planar or grid sample points. (ii) Evaluation of the piecewise linear (PL) version of families of geodesic curves on the mesh. (iii) Diagnostic of the property of planarity based on the behavior of the families of geodesic curves. The present work can be applied in the area of design and manufacturing of products based on sheet materials, such as apparel, metal stamping, thin structures, etc.

Geodesic as limits of geodesics on PL-surfaces

In this paper, we study the problem of convergence of geodesics on PL-surfaces and in particular on subdivision surfaces. More precisely, if a sequence (Tn)n∈N of PL-surfaces converges in distance and in normals to a smooth surface S and if Cn is a geodesic of Tn (i.e. it is locally a shortest path) such that (Cn)n∈N converges to a curve C, we want to know if the limit curve C is a geodesic of ...

Hierarchical Computation of Pl Harmonic Embeddings

With the advent of laser scanning systems, extremely large colored meshes are becoming commonplace, and with them the need to efficiently store, transmit, render and edit them. One approach, which has the additional feature of supporting texture mapping is to construct multiresolution representations of meshes. This approach was developed by Lounsbery et al. [10, 11], Schröder and Sweldens [13]...

Partial Likelihood for Real - Time Signal Processingt

We introduce a uniied statistical framework for real-time signal processing with neural networks by using a recent extension of maximum likelihood estimation, partial likelihood (PL) estimation theory, which allows for (i) dependent observations, and (ii) sequential processing. For a general neural network conditional distribution model, we establish a fundamental information-theoretic relation...

Biomechanical analysis of partial tears of anteromedial and posterolateral bundles of the anterior cruciate ligament

Introduction: The normal ACL consists of the anteromedial (AM) and posterolateral (PL) bundles, each having different functions. Recently, authors reported the first clinical procedure for ‘anatomic’ doublebundle ACL reconstruction, in which they defined this procedure as involving transplantation of the 2 tendon grafts at the center of the anatomic attachment of the AM and PL bundles, respecti...
